I received a review copy of this book through NetGalley and life delayed me from starting it when I meant to and the contents made it take me longer to finish reading than I wanted it to. It has many of the elements I really like in a story, including multiple POV. It's also SF, which is definitely one of my genres of choice, but this story didn't pull me in as much as I expected it would and it ended up taking me nearly a month to get through it.
The reason is simple—one of the main relationships described in the book made me so extraordinarily uncomfortable that it was hard to get into the story. The dynamic between mother and daughter reminded me far too much of my own relationship struggles. The whole thing gave me anxiety to be honest.

But that's not a reason for someone else to skip this book. I will say that if you're looking for a strong SF setting with space explorations and whatnot, you might be disappointed here. Then again, if you really want to think about big ideas like what it means to be a person, what it means to be a daughter or mother, what it means to be a family... then I think this book will really be for you.
It was just fine for me, but it could be great for someone else.
