A sweet story of a small revolution

This book has a lot of wonderful little details. Flying moose! Pre Sapiens protagonists! Cat journalists and intelligent trains. The set pieces around setting up a transit system and negotiating treaties are good. A lot feels like a pleasant echo of a Becky Chambers novel - but the characters feel thinner to me. Still, I’m happy I took a break from this world with a sweet alternative.

A mixed bag of great ideas

The world building and theorycrafting are excellent but the plot does feel uneven. The first third has great pacing but the latter thirds are slow or jumpy. Enjoyed it but found it hard to finish as it felt like it lacked momentum through the second half.
