Satisfying, truthful fairy tale
5 stars
This novel is really great. It's like if a fairy tale was 'real'. Novik even sets us up for that realization from the beginning - the main character says the tales about her village 'dragon' weren't true.
There isn't much battle action, but when it happens, it's brutal. Plus people are changed by the violence, which is about a real as you can get.
You go through the complete transformation of the character from naive girl to wise, powerful woman. You can't say it's an uplifting story, since the only way to grow in life is through pain, but it's very satisfying.
