sifuCJC reviewed Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer (Terra Ignota -- Book 1)
Tough, dense language but very interesting
4 stars
I read fiction mostly at night to calm toward sleep. This relaxed time is not the best time for this book. Where I'm looking for entertainment to zone out to, this book required my full attention to understand, so I missed like half of it. It's written, on purpose, in a 18th century style - verbose and poetic.
I'm reading Palmer's non-fiction 'Inventing the Renaissance', which I cannot recommend enough (if you're interested in Renaissance history) - it's very readable. I thought I'd dive into her fiction.
The plot devices are intriguing, which kept me going through the beginning. And once the reveals and action started, I kept going to the end. I'll read the next one even though I'll prbably only get half, just for the plot.
