Stone of tears

Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell, the Mother Confessor, fight the Imperial Order, and the various allies that the Emperor Jagang has coerced to follow him. The Stone of Tears, a magical device used to seal the Keeper in the underworld, has somehow been brought into the world of the living, making it possible for all Hell to break loose, including the Keeper himself, if the veil between worlds is torn enough for him to get through. The barrier between the Old World and the New World is breached, and the existence of magic is threatened by the Blood of the Fold, soldiers who will stop at nothing to destroy anything, and anyone, who has magic.
